Katherine Haenschen, a volunteer with the Obama campaign and a graduate student in the Radio-Television-Film Dept. at the University of Texas, appeared on Austin News Real to discuss efforts to register voters in Austin and Travis County. The deadline for voter registration is October 6, 2008.

Dahlstrom Ranch Conservation Easement

On August 7, 2008, the Austin City Council approved $1 million toward the purchase of a conservation easement on the Dahlstrom Ranch, located in Hays County in the Barton Springs segment of the Edwards Aquifer. The ranch includes several recharge features that are estimated to provide a substantial amount of recharge to Onion Creek. Experts consider the ranch to be the most important aquifer recharge property in the region.

Austin News Real’s Pam Thompson and her guests from Vote Rescue, Jenny Clark and Abbe DeLozier, present video of testimony recorded at a hearing of the Elections Committee at the Texas State Legislature. This episode features Clint Curtis, a computer programmer for the Wang Corporation in Florida in 2000. At that time Wang was asked by a high level official in the Florida legislature to design software that could change the results of an election. Mr. Curtis became a whistle-blower when he realized he was being asked to do something highly unethical.
