Documentary in Progress

John Henry Faulk's August 21, 2007 birthday celebration in Zilker Park Theater across from Barton Springs will honor him with a documentary and ice cream and cake. The documentary, John Henry Faulk; In His Own Words tells the story of his life and his heroic struggle during the "McCarthy Era" with blacklisting. John Henry Faulk defended the First Amendment and won. His struggle helped us all to understand the value of "free speech". Words cannot adequately express what John Henry Faulk has done for future generations; so we are using his own words to tell the story. Listening to his voice in the making of this documentary has been inspiring. Thanks to Frank Morrow of Alternative Views on our local access station in the '80's, who interviewed John Henry Faulk, we can hear and better understand the struggle to defend the Bill of Rights.
So far, we have listened to the 3/4" tapes of Alternative Views that have been preserved by the Center of American History at UT and saved them on a hard drive. As you can see from the photos, this took some doing; repairs and real time to preserve.

There was a dinner to remember John Henry Faulk at PACT, Public Access Community Television, in September of 2006 with Ken Koock, Anne & Bill McAfee, Peggy & Cactus Pryor, Mr & Mrs Gordon Wilkison, Shudde Fath, and Karen Kuykendall. Enticed by a delicious meal from Green Pastures (John Henry Faulk's childhood home) they lingered for 3 hours remembering their dear friend and his life.

John Henry Faulk's masters thesis preserved 1930's sermons delivered by black preachers in South Austin. We hope to hear some of these and spiritual songs at Zilker Hillside Theater on his birthday.

It is time, once again to defend the First Amendment and we must all follow in John Henry Faulk's footsteps.
