21 ACRES TO BE DONATED TO CITY IN MONTOPOLIS

Austin, Texas – The Montopolis Tributary Trail Association and Montopolis neighbors very much thank the McElhenney Family for their generous donation of 21.3 acres of their property to the City of Austin that will be preserved as open green space.

City staff confirmed today that the City will accept the land from Amy Barbee, John McElhenney, and Jennifer McElhenney Bertino that makes up nearly half the property they own in the Montopolis neighborhood adjacent to State Highway 183.

Susan Bright is author of 19 books of poetry, three of which have been recipients of Austin Book Awards. She is the editor/publisher of Plain View Press, which since 1975 has published 100 books. Her work as a poet, publisher, activist and educator has taken her all over the United States.

Fran Hanlon of Austin Code Pink and Doug Zachary of Veterans for Peace joined Pam Thompson of iconmedia on Austin News Real to describe events and the purpose of their organizations. Fran read a Mother's Day poem that was performed on the pedestrian bridge in Austin, Texas in 2008 and showed photos of events that were held all over the country. Doug talked about an event in Washington, DC at the National Archive where banners were hung from the building.
